Beyond the Gates is sweeping up accolades territory. After claiming our Look of the Week, the show also claims Performer of the Week thanks to the outstanding work delivered by soap newcomer Angela Fairley as Deanna McBride on the CBS daytime drama.
Fairley has been chosen as Soap Opera News’ Performer of the Week for March 9 to 13.
It is not easy to make your debut and immediately earn an accolade like Performer of the Week. That is especially true when there are five soaps on the air and so many talented actors across the genre and across the networks. Yet that is exactly what Fairley managed to do.
What Happened on Beyond the Gates?
As a newcomer to the soap world, she made her debut in the role of Vanessa and the late Doug McBride’s daughter during the March 11 episode.
In that episode, Deanna reunited with her mother. At first, the reunion felt calm and almost hopeful. But that calm did not last long.
In the next episode, just after the launch of the free clinic that also honors her late father, Deanna clearly had something weighing heavily on her mind. She wasted no time confronting her mother about sleeping with the town’s well-known bad boy, Joey Armstrong.
Deanna was visibly emotional. She is still grieving the loss of her beloved father, and at the same time, she is furious with her mother for seemingly moving on so quickly. Even as others tried to calm her down, Deanna refused to back down from speaking her truth.
Angela Fairley is the Performer of the Week
Fairley played the moment with striking emotional honesty. Her performance captured the raw grief of a daughter still mourning her father while also delivering the fiery anger and disgust Deanna felt toward her mother.
We already love Deanna. Not only because she is saying what someone clearly needed to say, but because Fairley is bringing some real spark to the role.
It may not have been the ideal scene fans would want between a mother and daughter, but Angela Fairley is already proving that she is perfectly suited for the soap genre.
She brought anguish, frustration, heartbreak, and fierce conviction to the scene, making every moment feel genuine and emotionally charged.
Congratulations to Angela Fairley on being named Performer of the Week. You have truly earned it.
