Dee Freeman, who appeared on The Young and the Restless as a judge and nurse in 1997 and 2009, has passed away. According to a post on her Instagram account:
Statement on Dee Freeman’s Death
“On behalf of her family, it is with deepest sadness that we share this update with you. Dee passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026, after a brave and fearless fight with cancer. Thank you to everyone who supported Dee during her battle. It blew her away to know how many people cared about her and were pulling for her. We know Dee is up there in heaven being the force of nature she always was. Now she’s doing it with her angel wings on. Rest in peace, Dee.”
Her publicist, Desirae Lee Benson, also shared:
“I struggled to write this, but it is with deep sadness that I share the passing of my beloved client, Dee Freeman. I was heartbroken when I received the news yesterday. Dee was truly a gem—an extraordinary talent whose warmth, grace, and authenticity touched everyone who had the honor of knowing and working with her. She fought a courageous and unwavering battle against cancer, and while our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering.
With a rich and enduring legacy in the entertainment industry, Dee’s work spanned years of dedication to her craft. Most recently, she brought depth and heart to audiences as Valerie, Andy’s mother, on the hit Tyler Perry’s Sistas on BET. Her presence on screen was both powerful and unforgettable.
Beyond her accomplishments, Dee will be remembered for her kindness, her strength, and the light she carried into every room. She leaves behind a legacy of resilience, artistry, and love that will continue to inspire.
I extend my deepest condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, and all who were touched by her incredible spirit. She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.”
Dee Freeman’s Career Highlights
Freeman’s acting career spanned more than two decades, with her most recent role as Valerie Barnes on Sistas on BET, portraying the mother of series leads Andi and Cheyenne Barnes. Her other notable credits include Reasonable Doubt, NCIS: Los Angeles, Perception, ER, Seinfeld, and The X-Files.
