General Hospital leading man Maurice Benard, who fans know and love as Sonny Corinthos, made a big reveal on the latest episode of his YouTube series State of Mind.
While we already know he plans to continue his State of Mind podcast when he eventually leaves General Hospital, Benard shared something new during his conversation with co-star Kelly Thiebaud, who plays Britt Westbourne.
Maurice Benard Hints at Teaching Acting After GH
Thiebaud joined Benard on State of Mind to talk about Steve Burton’s recent hiatus. Since her character has shared a major on-screen relationship with Burton’s, she admitted she was shocked by the news. Still, she made it clear she supports and respects his decision.
The episode also dives into Thiebaud’s own exit and return to General Hospital, and what it has been like essentially starting over at 40. She opened up about continuing to study and grow as an actress, even after years in the business.
When Benard asked how long she had been studying acting, Kelly shared that she started on and off in her mid-20s but got serious around 27 or 28. And she is still in class today.
That is when Maurice dropped a surprise.
He casually asked Kelly, “So you’ll come to my class?”
Kelly looked confused and asked, “You’re an acting teacher?”
Maurice replied, “I will be. I’m going to do it when I leave GH.”
That caught her off guard. “Oh boy, you wanna talk about that?” she asked.
“Not yet. I gotta wait,” Maurice said.
“But I want to teach an acting class and do this,” Maurice explained, referring to both teaching and continuing his podcast.
No Retirement Yet, But Big Plans Ahead
Before anyone panics, Benard has made it clear several times that he has no immediate plans to retire. This is more about what he sees for himself down the road.
