General Hospital fans have reason to celebrate because Nathan Dean (formerly Nathan Dean Parsons) is returning to the ABC daytime drama as Ethan Lovett, six years after his last appearance on the show. This news was first reported by TV Insider.
General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini shared a statement, saying that the team is excited to welcome Dean back and that they have “a great story planned with, of course, a few twists along the way.”
A Familiar Face Returns
Dean originally played Ethan Lovett, a charismatic drifter and con artist who first appeared on January 30, 2009. The character quickly became a fan favorite and was soon tied into major storylines involving Luke Spencer and Holly Sutton.
Although the role has been played by others since his departure, including James Ryan for a brief arc in 2023, Nathan Dean’s return marks the first time he reprised the role in several years.
Memorable History in Port Charles
Ethan’s journey on General Hospital has included dramatic twists and turns over the years. He started out on a con in Port Charles and ended up connected to some of the soap’s biggest names.
In 2020, Olivia Falconeri ran into Ethan in Monte Carlo while searching for information about Holly, and they briefly teamed up with Robert. At the time Holly was presumed dead.
Later storylines even involved Ethan being imprisoned and then rescued from Venezuela.
Beyond General Hospital
Outside of his work on General Hospital, Dean has continued to act in television and film. His earlier stints included roles in series like Roswell, New Mexico and Once Upon a Time, as well as parts in True Blood and other projects.
With his return announced for April, fans have a lot to look forward to.

Since returning to Australia three years ago, Ethan has remained off-screen. Time will tell what brings him back to Port Charles.
