Performer of the Week
Every line Emma Samms delivers is perfection. She’s never off, never puts a pause in the wrong place, never seems to be reaching for a line, and she never overacts. Her delivery is always exactly what it should be for any scene she’s in. Samms is also classically beautiful and when you throw in the to-die-for English accent, she so perfectly embodies everything that the character of Holly Sutton should be that it makes her one of the rare soap opera characters that is unable to be recast. Holly is the definite soap anti-heroine. She is dark and light all wrapped up in a simply gorgeous package and you can’t help but to root for her no matter how bad she is. Her root-ability stems purely from her portrayer who can convey so much with simply a look. Holly had recently returned to town determined to rekindle the flame with her soulmate and true love, Robert Scorpio (Tristen Rogers). She found out he was interested in another woman but was undeterred. After everything she and Robert had been through over the past 40 years, Holly felt that they were destined to spend forever together and that it was finally their time to get it right. Sadly, it was not to be. Robert is the DA now and Holly can’t live her life permanently on the right side of the law, especially when her son’s life is on the line (and it is always on the line). We watched as Holly came to the heartbreaking realization that it wouldn’t work, couldn’t work, between her and Robert and we watched them share a soul-crushing final kiss. There were no histrionics, no accusations or blame. It was just how it had to be no matter how much they, and we, wanted it to be otherwise. Samms broke our hearts in the most beautiful way when she bid her true love goodbye and that is why she is our Performer of the Week. Congratulations Emma! Please come back soon!
