Steve Burton recently took to social media to announce that he is taking a break from his role as Jason Morgan on General Hospital. The actor revealed that he is stepping away to focus on family as a newly married man and promised that he will be back in the summer.
However, rumors began circulating almost immediately. Burton addressed everything in the latest episode on the Stone Cold and The Jackal YouTube channel.
Burton explained, “Life is more important than anything else. I had a couple executive producers that said, ‘Hey, family and life is your life is way more important than any show that you’re ever going to do.’ And that really hits home after the passing of James Van Der Beek. Like this is a guy that we grew up watching, or was, you know, a little generation, I guess, less than me, maybe. I don’t know.”
Shutting Down the Speculation
He further shared, “[I am] grateful for the show, obviously. It’s been my whole life, you know, and to step away, it’s not always easy. It’s like family there. But I have a family too, you know. I’m newly married. Want to take a break. Want to live life a little bit and go enjoy, you know. And when you get on the hamster wheel of the process of this, it’s been a long time. And I’m just excited to take a break, spend time with the family, and just go live a little, be grateful that I have a chance to do that. That’s a gift in itself.”
Burton also reassured fans, “I know I’ll be back in the summer, which is going to be awesome. I’m sure they’re going to have a great story planned.”
Having worked since he was 15 years old, Burton reflected that he has been doing this for 40 years. Time is something you simply cannot get back.
And then he brought up those rumors and addressed them directly.
“I’m not sick. Michelle’s not pregnant. And I’m coming back in the summer. I’m just excited, man. I got an amazing wife I get to spend time with.”
Burton also noted that he will continue creating content, so fans do not need to worry about that.
