Pop the champagne because a Young and the Restless reunion 30 years in the making is officially happening. Vivica A. Fox and Shemar Moore are returning to the CBS daytime drama this spring. While Moore has made sporadic visits to the show since exiting in 2005, this marks the first time since 1995 that Fox will appear on Y&R.
Moore will reprise his role as Malcolm Winters for a multi-episode storyline this April, while Fox returns as Dr. Stephanie Simmons. Reports say both stars began taping episodes today, February 17, and their returns are set to have shocking and lasting implications for the residents of Genoa City.
As longtime viewers will remember, Malcolm and Stephanie were romantically involved during Fox’s initial run on the show before Stephanie eventually left town.
That alone has fans wondering if the two reconnected romantically offscreen. With soaps, anything is possible.
From Daytime to Primetime and Back
Both Moore and Fox have stayed busy since their soap opera days.
Moore has led hit primetime series like S.W.A.T. and Criminal Minds, while also returning to The Young and the Restless several times over the years.
Fox has built an extensive career in film and television, and fans may also remember her time on Days of Our Lives and Generations.
In a previous interview with Soap Opera News, Fox was asked if she would ever return to her soap roots.
Then, she told us, “Absolutely! I will never leave the world of soaps. That’s where I started. If someone had a good, juicy role I would love to. I don’t limit myself. I’ll do soap operas, movies, television shows, and theater. That’s what my job is. I’m an actress! I’m proud that I came from the world of soap operas because soap actors are some of the hardest working actors. The fact that they can do pages and pages of dialogue is amazing. There’s definitely an art to that.”
It looks like that good, juicy return has finally happened. And Genoa City may never be the same.
