Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos, General Hospital) is not just stirring up drama in Port Charles; he’s also making waves on YouTube with his episodic hit show! This time, he sat down with his on screen brother, Rick Hearst (Ric Lansing). During their chat, they tackled some pretty heavy stuff like divorce, family dynamics, alcoholism, mental health and more!
Opening the episode, Benard did his usual introduction before diving into Hearst’s compelling background story. Right from the start, Hearst captivated his audience as he shared his feelings of guilt surrounding his parents’ divorce at just six years old. Hearst recounted, “I was trying to understand why two people I loved did not love each other any longer and didn’t want to be together. It was just hard at six years old to try to comprehend that—it doesn’t come into play, so it must be me.” He added, “It was something that genuinely I thought if I was not in the picture, then you know…”
He vividly remembers his father’s battles with alcoholism. Hearst recalls his mother telling him that when he was just two years old, his father would often be found passed out, wrapped around the toilet. During those nights, he would wander to the bathroom and asks his mom what his dad was doing on the floor. She would gently respond that he was just resting, instinctively wanting to shield Rick from the harsh reality.
Benard and Rick Hearst also spoke about their late co-star Tyler Christopher (ex-Nikolas Cassadine), who passed away in October 2023. Be sure to watch the full episode below!
