Abigail Klein is a find, and she has proven that ever since taking over the role of Stephanie Johnson on Days of Our Lives in 2022.
We often talk about how difficult it is for someone to step into a recast role. Fans are attached. Expectations are high. Comparisons are inevitable. But Klein did it seamlessly. She made Stephanie her own while still honoring what came before. And week after week, she keeps turning in standout performances.
She has now been chosen as Soap Opera News’ Performer of the Week for February 23 through 27.
A Terrifying Storyline, A Standout Performance
This week on the Peacock soap, Stephanie’s storyline reached a new level of intensity. For months, her character has been dealing with a stalker sending disturbing and threatening messages to her and to her then fiancé, now husband, Alex Kiriakis.
Things escalated fast.
After eloping, Stephanie and Alex returned to Salem ready to start their life together. Stephanie was at the hospital with an officer assigned to protect her, so in theory, she should have been safe. But her stalker still managed to get to her. He chloroformed her and kidnapped her.
He took her to a remote location, tied her to a chair, and gagged her. From there, Stephanie drifted into a terrifying daydream where she confronted her “kidnapper” face-to-face.
It was intense. It was unsettling. And it was the kind of material that can either fall flat or completely captivate an audience.
Klein chose the second option. The one she is best at.
She handles emotional material with a quiet strength that pulls you in. Every expression mattered. Every silent beat landed. Even when she was not screaming or fighting, you felt her fear, her desperation, her determination. Those still moments hit just as hard as the explosive ones.
Whether you are a fan of the storyline itself or not, it is hard to overlook acting like that.
Abigail Klein brought it. Every bit of emotion was there.
