It is time! Let’s countdown and rank the best soap operas of 2024! This already momentous occasion is even more so this year. Why? Glad you asked! It is the last year counting down, four. Next year there will be five. We will be adding Beyond the Gates to the mix. Today, though we got four so let’s go!
The Bold and the Beautiful
There were lots of musical chairs of bedrooms and boardrooms that took place during the last twelve months. Here are a few of our favs. Luna the “loon” decided poverty wasn’t for her. She wanted the high life of being a Spencer and left a few corpses and cages in the wake before being caught.
Taylor returned home with a nuface thinking she was dying of heart failure but no worries it was only Broken Heart Syndrome and she is doing better now. The Shelia vs Sugar feud rekindled, west coast style. And Shelia, with her nine lives and her nine toes survived (Sugar didn’t) and is walking around free as a bird. The younger generation has a new trio we are keeping a close eye on; Will, Electra and Rema. Ivy is back . Thope set our screens a blaze but wasn’t meant to be and Thomas and Douglas exited the canvas. Hope made a pit stop making a play for Steffy’s husband, Finn, before moving on to Carter. Finn is cute and all but Carter is good looking too and a corporate coup of Forrester Creations, adds to the sizzle! In 2025, we will see another battle for Ridge Forrester’s heart and for Forrester Creations!
Days of Our Lives
A whirlwind in Salem; another case of DID, Clyde continued his reign of terror, paternity drama, a fake return from the great beyond, a soap within a soap, the Pawn re-activated; there was plenty going on. What did we love most? Sloan, Miranda, EJ and Leo all conspired to keep the secret. But Ericole finally got their miracle baby, Jude, and got their long awaited happily ever after. It broke our hearts why Greg Vaughn (Eric) had to step in and return to Days, but seeing Eric save brother Brady from Fiona’s conniving con put a smile on our faces. Speaking of smiling, we got a good chuckle out of Johnny being “color blind,” which then landed him in Joy’s arms.
After all the drama was said and done, Alex is Justin’s son and Xander is Victor’s as it should be. The soap within a soap had its moments and “Hattie” is always a good time. The “Fake Abigail” storyline was…but AnnaLynne McCord and Billy Flynn had “Chabby” like chemistry and we were good with it. Xander vs Philip with all the subplots is gearing up for an interesting 2025. And of course, we will forever love and be forever grateful for Bill Hayes, Rest in Peace, and “Doug Williams.”
The Young and the Restless
CEO schemes and switcharoos, medical crisis, hostages, kidnapping, bed hopping, yep pretty much the normal year in Genoa City. Among all the drama these moments caught our attention the most. Jack and Nikki fell off the wagon, at one point together, before dusting themselves off and getting sober again. Ashley had multiple alters. Connor was diagnosed with OCD.
Sharon had Cameron all in her head. And how about that YR 2024 CEO shuffle? Newman Enterprises? Newman Media? Glissade? Hamilton/Winters? Chancellor? Jabot? Marchetti? The organizational charts were popping. Let’s just say someone with the last name Newman runs NE and NM. Victor ended up with Chancellor and Nikki as CEO. Devon/Lily are back helming the now separate Winters. Jack has Jabot and Glissade. And Summer runs Marchetti? Did we get that right? Jordan and Ian came out of the shadows seeking revenge and Sharon, Heather and Phyllis got caught in the crossfire. That storyline is still unfolding. Without a doubt the best thing about YR this year was the reemergence of the real Newman Ranch! YAY!
General Hospital – Best Daytime Soap Opera of 2024
GH ranks as our best soap opera in 2024! Let’s get right into the best of the best. Drew, Nina, Carly, the SEC and FBI kicked the year off into high gear. Sprina fans were heart broken when Spencer was presumed dead. But maybe the fact that he was protecting Trina helped it hurt a little less?
Now fast forward several months later, Kai looks promising for the young heroine doesn’t he? Drew/Willow/Nina/Michael and Sasha? Whew yep some partner swapping going on. Port Charles saw huge character returns, Lucas, Lucky, Ric, Jason and Lulu! And on the flip side of the coin the soap gawds giveth and they taketh away. Dex passed away and Sam’s passing ripped out the hearts of millions of long time Sam and Kelly Manaco fans. Port Charles will never be the same again. And the surrogate storyline of Kristiana/TJ/Molly mixed in with the tampering of Sonny’s medications furnished us with powerful performances that won’t soon be forgotten. We can’t wait to see what happens next in PC!
