The Writers Guild of America (WGA) just dropped the nominations for the 78th annual awards, and the daytime drama category is officially a must-watch event. While veteran giants, General Hospital and The Young and the Restless, secured their spots, the headline of the day is undoubtedly the new, making-history soap opera, Beyond the Gates.

The Freshman: Beyond the Gates

Just one year into its run, Beyond the Gate has achieved what many shows take years to accomplish, led by the legendary Michele Van Jean, and the Co-Head Writer, Robert Goza jr. The writing team has been recognized for its well developed character driven storytelling.

Talk about a gun-wielding, bitter ex-wife, or a wig-scheming, name-changing bitter ex, the show’s got it all. From romance to heartbreak, to edge-of-your-seat drama and must-see cliffhangers, BTG is the soap.

With a writing team that includes industry, heavyweights like Ron Carlivati and Susan Dansby it’s a successfully blended, classic soap with a modern fresh perspective that resonates with viewers across the globe.

It isn’t just an award committee it’s a powerhouse labor union that represents the people who write your favorite shows.

While both Days of Our Lives and The Bold and the Beautiful are noticeably absent this year, for B&B, the nomination is actually a choice. The show sometimes does not enter the WGA competition, as it’s done or at least the past two years.

The real shocker is Days. After a dominant four-year winning streak from 2021 to 2024 the Peacock exclusive soap is not among the nominees.

This year, the 78th annual award will crown a winner on March 8, 2026, with the ceremony happening in New York and Los Angeles.
