It.Is.Time!
It’s been 355 days (March 6, 2024) since it was announced that after 35 years, a Black soap opera, Beyond the Gates, “BTG,” was on its way to our screens. The new daytime serial drama was created by executive producer and showrunner Michele Val Jean and developed and produced by the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture, led by Sheila Ducksworth, in partnership with P&G Studios.
The one-hour daytime drama with a predominately Black American cast (the first of its kind since Generations) will air Monday-Friday at 2pm ET on CBS and will stream live and on demand via Paramount+.
Soap Opera News got a sneak peek at BTG’s historic inaugural week and we are all in!
From the first bars of The Emotions’ R&B oldie but goodie, Best of My Love, through the classic jaw-dropping Friday soap opera cliffhanger, BTG serves up everything soap fans love; a talented cast, soap opera icons, beautiful people, opulent sets, glitz, glamour, fashionistas, love in the afternoon, rivalries, a slap (or two), backstabbing, cheating, secrets, lies, attempted murder, etc. If you love it, BTG’s got it.
The show is soapy, and it blends soap with Black excellence, pride, and history with a multicultural cast. It is clear Val Jean and Ducksworth made it a point to create a show where everyone feels welcome and represented. Well, done.
With CBS’ high-powered promotion blitz (big kudos to CBS), soap fans, like us at Soap Opera News, have already fallen in love with the show’s anchor family, the Dupree family, and the Richardson, Hawthorne, and Hamilton families, as well as the show’s entire cast. And after seeing them in action, you like us, will love them even more.
Subsequent to our BTG binge-worthy binge, we are primed for this ride! We have our starting line storylines, our heroes and heroines, our villains and villainess, what couples to watch, what couples to root for, what characters to root for, and what characters to keep our side eye on. We are ready!
