Bill Hayes, who is best known for his role as Doug Williams on Days of Our Lives, has died at age 98.
The show’s Executive Producer, Ken Corday, said in a statement, “I have known Bill for most of my life, and he embodied the heart and soul of ‘Days of our Lives. Although we are grieving and will miss him, Bill’s indelible legacy will live on in our hearts and the stories we tell, both on and off the screen.”

William Foster Hayes III born on June 5, 1925, was an accomplished American actor and recording artist. In the spring of 1955, his song “The Ballad of Davy Crockett” reached the top of the Billboard charts. Hayes started his career in the late 1940s as a musician and later shifted his focus to dramatic acting roles in the late 1960s. His exceptional acting skills led him to be cast in a role that gained him additional fame among younger audiences. In 1970, he originated the character of Doug Williams on NBC’s Days of Our Lives, which he continued to play until 2023.
Hayes was married to his co-star Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie Williams) from 1975. Hayes was the father of 5.
Hayes’ impact on the world of daytime TV and the legacy of his character, Doug Williams, will be remembered by fans, friends, and colleagues alike. His dedication to the show and his contributions to the genre will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Bill Hayes.
