B&B Recap December 8: Donna Supports Eric
At the office, Eric is not happy about the whole party thing. He never said anything about retiring. He even calls out Ridge for basically taking it upon himself to “retire” him. Eric doesn’t accept it. Ridge says he’s earned it and asks to talk to his dad one-on-one. But Eric insists he’s not getting put out to pasture.
Donna stands by her man and says they can’t spring something like this on Eric. She was just having a conversation with Brooke and wonders if her sister was even listening to her at all. Brooke insists they were just doing what’s best. Ridge doubles down, saying forcing his dad into retirement is what’s best.
Brooke says they don’t want Eric getting stressed out. Donna fights for her husband, saying he wants to design, and they should let him. Eric reminds them he built this company. They know — they all agree — but Ridge points out that Eric handed the company over to him and asked him to run it, and that’s the way it should stay.
Eric Agrees
Ridge admits that all he can picture, if his father starts designing again, is Eric ending up in the hospital. He can’t go through that again. He even asks Donna if that’s what she really wants. Ridge begs his dad to take some time off. Donna thinks it sounds wonderful — Eric does too — but he says he’d only be gone a week because he wants to design.
Ridge insists his dad should retire and actually enjoy his life. He gets emotional and reminds Eric that he already created his final collection, and he loves him too much to watch him push himself like this. He finally agrees and says he’ll do it his son’s way; he loves him too.
Eric grabs his stapler and walks out with Donna.
Eric Turns Off the Lights
Later, Brooke tells Ridge she wishes things had gone better. Ridge can’t believe his dad thinks he’s being selfish, but Brooke reminds him Eric knows he loves him.
Meanwhile, Donna and Eric head to the showroom. Eric is still saying the same thing — he’s disappointed they want to throw him out. He has some amazing designs, and they belong on red carpets anywhere in the world, even Paris Fashion Week or the Met Gala. Eric feels like he’s finally coming into his own, and these drawings prove it. Donna agrees and says he should show them.
But Eric says he doesn’t want to show anyone. He packs them up and wants them to stay private. These designs are his. He can’t believe this is happening. Donna offers to go talk to Brooke, but Eric begs her not to. He asks her to just leave it alone. Maybe Ridge is right. Maybe it’s time for him to retire.
He doesn’t understand why his son doesn’t want to work with him. He’s still viable, his mind is sharp — he can’t just turn it off. And now he’s wondering what he’s even supposed to do next.
Eric walks up onto the runway. Donna tells him she’s sorry. He begs her not to say that — he doesn’t want pity, especially not from her. He apologizes for putting all this on her. Eric tells her he’s going to need a minute. Donna decides to wait in the car while Eric stands there, looking around.
Daphne and Carter head to the design office. Carter points out how upset Eric looked. Eric then turns off the lights and sits with his designs.
Steffy Makes a Discovery
Steffy and Finn meet in the showroom. She fills him in on what happened and says the whole thing is just terrible. Then she notices the designs lying around and points out how stunning they are. No wonder her granddad doesn’t want to retire.
Steffy says this collection is flawless. Finn wonders how Eric pulled all of this off. He even points out that, judging by the way everything is laid out, Eric was probably planning to surprise Ridge.
Steffy says that instead, he ended up getting the surprise. Finn then wonders if Ridge had seen the designs first, would he have changed his mind?
She’s not sure, but if her dad saw the collection, maybe he would change his mind. Finn says that even as a doctor, he thinks Ridge made the worst decision.
