In the latest Daily Drama Podcast, hosts Steve Burton (Jason, General Hospital) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) answer fans’ questions.
One interesting question that came up was whether Bradford’s decision to be on a recurring basis was a personal choice or if he is simply too busy to be on a full contract. He took a moment to clarify how the distinction between contract and recurring roles works for actors. “I have plenty of free time,” he noted before explaining, “the contract versus recurring thing is not necessarily up to the actor… it is to an extent.”
He explains, “In 2013, I decided not to renew my contract because I was curious to do other things. So that automatically put me in recurring status because they kept calling me to come on, which was awesome, and that’s kind of how it’s been for me since 2013 or 2014, actually. They call me when they want me and that situation works out pretty great for me.”
Anderson, who originated the role of Damian Spinelli on General Hospital in 2006, played the part on contract until 2014. He has continued in a recurring role since 2015 and has been recognized with five Daytime Emmy Award nominations for his work on the show.
