Brandon Barash, Wally Kurth, and Eric Martsolf spent a few minutes with Soap Opera News last weekend at the Day of Days free fan event in Los Angeles.
The conversation at hand centered around life on the road in conjunction with life on set. These men spend a lot of time together whether it be working on Days of Our Lives weekly or touring the country with their band The Day Players. On whether or not they’re all great friends, Barash jokingly said, “We can’t stand each other, we just like making money.”
Of their long careers in Daytime, they find being on set of Days as the most collaborative of all the shows they’ve been on. Each man agreed the Days family was unique in how well they all come together for each other, all looking to put on the best show possible.
Specifically, Barash and Martsolf love the work-life balance Soap acting offers its stars. They can go to work, pursue passion projects, and be present in their family’s lives, all while producing great entertainment without having to leave home for months at a time, like when starring in feature films.
Kurth spoke to something he felt he never had with a news outlet, and that’s the ability to be on TV but also live a normal life where he is able to go most places nearly unrecognizable.
About what makes The Day Players fun, Martsolf said he loves showing a different side of himself to the audience who comes to see them play. All three men agreed that it was a joy to see them smile, laugh, and have a great time without the baggage their daytime characters carry with them. It’s just fun.
If given the writer’s laptop and told to write for their characters, all three men would love to see their respective loved ones sitting at Brady’s Pub and all share a dream of their men starting a rock band. Johnny, Brady, Justin, and Stefan would take the stage and tear the house down. Preferably around the holidays!
As to whether or not Kurth mixes up names and locations between General Hospital and Days of our Lives, he is practiced enough to avoid those mistakes… but that doesn’t mean he never calls the Kiriakis Mansion the Quartermaine Mansion! Watch the full interview below! (Photo: JPI)
