Cari Shayne (ex-Karen Wexler, General Hospital) sat down Maurice Benard (Sonny) on his YouTube series, State of Mind. Cari shares about her early life, which involved a lot of moving around. She was born in Pennsylvania and lived in various other states, including Florida, Missouri, Connecticut, and more, all before she turned 10. At the age of 16, she moved to New York City by herself with the aim of becoming an actor. Looking back, she admits that she was excited but naive. If she had known how hard it would be and the potential dangers, she might not have gone through with it. Despite the challenges, she signed up for school and did her senior year in New York City. Her experience there was an eye-opener. She moved to LA during the pilot season, around halfway through her senior year. Her first acting job was on the TV show General Hospital.

Shayne also talks about her divorce, revealing that she has been divorced twice, and is still going through the process of the second one. She admits that having her father there helped her get through it. Her second marriage lasted for 20 years, during which they were emotionally divorced but still living together. By the next year, they had told their children about their separation. Shayne decided to create an online platform, a support community for single dads. She plans to launch the online platform hopefully by January or February.

During their conversation, Shayne and Benard touched upon the topic of manic episodes. Shayne recalled her experience on General Hospital, where she had to deliver several pages of heavy and dark dialogue on a daily basis. In order to portray the character authentically, Shayne felt that she had to live in that space constantly, which eventually led her to leaving.
