Welcome back to our “Characters of the Past” column.Today we are looking at Celeste Perrault, a character from ‘Days of Our Lives’ which was most notably played by Tanya Boyd. Boyd made her debut in the role in April 1994 when the character was introduced as Stefano DiMera’s (ex-Joseph Mascolo) confidante and former lover. At her initial introduction, her past was shrouded in secrecy as she was first believed to be the aunt of Lexie Carver (ex-Renee Jones). Eventually, the truth came to light and everyone learned that Celeste was indeed Lexie’s mother.
Celeste later gave Salem a break to travel the world where she got entangled with the spiritual world and honed her physic powers. With premonitions of her daughters’ health, Celeste was able to return to Salem and once again get entangled in family issues. Celeste also played an integral part in the connection between Abe (James Reynolds) and Lexie. Celeste was also very vital to the police department as she assisted them with solving police cases due to her psychic abilities.
After years of being absent from Salem, Celeste returned in April, 2012. This time the character was being played by Beverly Todd. Celeste returned beseeching her daughter, Lexie to get medical tests done as she was predicting grave danger in her way. Lexie developed a brain tumor and later died on June 20, 2012 and Celeste left town shortly after.
Celeste’s other Salem connections include; her son, Cameron (ex-Nathan Owens) and her grandson, Theo Carver (Kyler Pettis). Ironically, it was on this day in 2007 that Boyd made her last appearance as Celeste Perrault. It has been years since Tanya Boyd has done any acting but would fans want to see her reprise her ‘Days’ role?
