And that’s a wrap! Chris McKenna is officially OUT at General Hospital as Jack Brennan after the character was shockingly killed off. His final scenes played out on the September 1 episode when Ava and Drew discovered his lifeless body floating in the Metro Court pool and decided to get rid of it to cover their own tracks.
Taking to X while quoting his exit interview, McKenna wrote:
“Very sad to leave #GH behind, but what a great ride it’s been, and I’m so grateful that it happened at all. #Brennan”
Just moments before that post, the former One Life to Live star also shared a heartfelt message to the viewers who supported his portrayal of the WSB agent:
“Hey, everyone. Just want to say how moved I’ve been by the support you’ve shown me and Jack. As you now know, I left the show months ago, wrapped in June. I’ll say more once my exit interview runs. Until then, from the bottom of my heart- thank you. #GH #Brennan”
A Bittersweet Goodbye for a Daytime Veteran
Having the summer to sit on the news gave the actor time to digest his departure. “This is the third soap that has either written me off or killed me off,” McKenna noted in an interview with TV Insider. “I did my last episode in June, so I’ve had a few months to adjust.”
It’s a bittersweet exit for McKenna, who originally launched his daytime career on One Life to Live playing Joey Buchanan from 1990 to 1993, before later appearing as Mark Harding on The Young and the Restless from 2014 to 2015. Still, he deeply appreciates the opportunity to become part of the Port Charles canvas and build a fan base with Jack Brennan.
What’s Next for Chris McKenna?
Even though Jack’s time in Port Charles has come to a tragic, watery end, McKenna already has some things in the pipeline.
“There are a few things in the works,” McKenna shared when asked about his future plans. “I still teach acting classes—I always have. And I did sell a script right before I got on GH, and now I get to go back to that project, which I’ve been really looking forward to doing for a long time.”
This may be the end of the line for Jack Brennan, but Chris is doing fine—and fans will definitely be seeing him again very soon!
