Can you imagine if Colton Little, Days of Our Lives’ Andrew Donovan, had ended up playing WSB Director Ross Cullum on General Hospital?
It almost happened.
The actor made a quick but surprising appearance toward the end of a recent interview with Michael Fairman, where Adrian Anchondo, aka Marco Rios, Little’s real-life beau, was reflecting on his time on the show.
Anchondo talked about his exit, the friendships he built, and what the experience meant to him after Marco was killed off.
Then things took an interesting turn.
Little popped in near the end and revealed that he had actually auditioned for the role of Ross Cullum, the same role now played by Andrew Hawkes.
“I actually auditioned and was seen by the producers for the Cullum role,” Little shared. “I got pretty far in the process, and they ended up going with Andrew Hawkes. They went in a different direction. I think they were still figuring out the character, the age, the type, and where the storyline was going.”
He also mentioned that the casting process was pretty wide at first before they narrowed things down. Even so, it clearly left an impression.
“I’ve been in for one other character since then,” he added. “Knowing what Adrian’s experience was like and getting to know everybody, I’d love to get into that world.”
So… What If It Happened?
It’s kind of fun to think about.
Little currently recurs on Days of Our Lives and has been playing Andrew Donovan since 2022, starting on Beyond Salem before moving over to the main show.
He even popped up again recently in scenes this month with Greg Rikaart’s Leo Stark and Peter Porte’s Dimitri von Leuschner.
So the question is, what would his Ross Cullum have looked like?
Would he have brought a different energy to the role? A different kind of edge? It’s hard not to be a little curious, especially knowing how intense that storyline turned out.
Either way, Andrew Hawkes has definitely made the role his own. But still… It’s one of those “what could have been” moments that soap fans can’t help but think about.
