The Dancing with the Stars universe is officially getting bigger. ABC and Hulu just announced a brand-new competition series called Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro, and it sounds like a grueling ride for anyone looking to join the ballroom elite.
The show is set to premiere on July 13, 2026, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. If you happen to miss the live broadcast, you can catch the episodes the following day on Hulu.
A Familiar Face Takes the Lead
In a fun twist, the series will be hosted by Robert Irwin. Fresh off his victory as the Season 34 Len Goodman Mirrorball Champion, the wildlife conservationist is ready for the host microphone. Robert has a natural energy that fans clearly fell in love with during his time as a contestant, so seeing him guide the next generation of dancers feels like a perfect fit.
Living for the Dream
Twelve talented, up-and-coming dancers will move into one house together to navigate a massive audition process. This time around, they are competing for a life-changing prize: a guaranteed spot as a professional dancer on Season 35 of the main show.
A Family Affair at the Judges’ Table
When it comes to the judging panel, ABC is keeping it in the family. Three-time Mirrorball champ Mark Ballas is returning to the franchise, but he won’t be alone. He’ll be joined by his mother, Shirley Ballas, who is famously known as “The Queen of Latin.” She also currently serves as the head judge on Strictly Come Dancing in the UK. On top of that, a rotating lineup of fan-favorite returning pros will stop by to mentor and guest judge throughout the season.
This series marks a busy time for the cast. Mark Ballas has been everywhere lately, even jumping into the high-stakes world of Peacock’s The Traitors U.S. in early 2025. Meanwhile, Shirley continues to be one of the most decorated dancers in history. With BBC Studios producing and long-time showrunner Conrad Green at the helm, the show is in very experienced hands.
While we are still waiting on the names of the 12 contestants and the list of returning pros, it’s going to be fascinating to see who has the footwork and the personality to handle the pressure of the house and the ballroom.
