David Lami Friebe, known simply as Lami to fans and friends, is the newest addition to the cast of Beyond the Gates, CBS’s groundbreaking daytime drama. This fall, he’s set to make his debut as Izaiah Hawthorne, the brother of Jacob Hawthorne.
When Izaiah hits town, he doesn’t waste time. He quickly becomes entangled in two complicated relationships, bringing even more tension to the already drama-filled world of Fairmont Crest.
Who Is David Lami Friebe?
Though new to Beyond the Gates and daytime soap operas, David Lami Friebe is far from a newcomer to the screen or stage. He’s perhaps best recognized for his recurring role as Trey, the charming delivery guy on Tyler Perry’s hit BET series Sistas, who had some flirty scenes with Karen (Ebony Obsidian) and Pam (Angela Beyince). But his talent runs much deeper than what’s seen in a single role.
Friebe is a multidisciplinary artist — an actor, musician, and storyteller whose creative journey spans continents, cultures, and mediums.
Born in Portland, Oregon, Lami spent his early childhood traveling across Europe with his parents — his father, George Makinto, a Liberian-German jazz musician, and his mother, Mukarabe Makinto-Inandava, a Burundian minister.

While CBS has yet to confirm the exact airdate for Izaiah Hawthorne’s first appearance, fans can expect David Lami Friebe’s debut to take place sometime this fall. Beyond the Gates watchers won’t want to miss it.
