In October of this year, Days of Our Lives alum, Rachel Melvin (ex-Chelsea Brady) got married to Kevin Barrett. The actress shared a full-length story of how the happiest day of her life took an unexpected turn. She first shared, “I wasn’t sure what I would say about “the happiest day of my life,” especially when it felt like one of our worst – at least initially… For the last nine months, Kevin and I sacrificed time with family and friends to work tirelessly on planning our dream wedding and building a venue to support it. We leveled for a ceremony area, installed steps up to our alter, built a dope ass bar out of wine barrels, built, sanded and stained ten twelve-foot tables, installed dinner and dance lighting as well as a projection system, dug trenches, ran and tested electrical, hung basket lights I’d made out of Easter baskets, built a scullery for our kitchen staff and orchestrated a way to accommodate parking for 100 guests. We made pathways, landscaped, and installed signs we built and wood burned so our guests knew how to navigate the venue. We downloaded and installed countless fonts before designing and printing our name cards and timelines, all of which I individually hand cut with an Exacto knife. We made and hand-painted table numbers and three different kinds of name card holders, so our servers knew who had which dish outside of the additional charts Kevin had made and printed for them to carry. We spent months thrifting and scouting estate sales and swap meets for antique candlesticks, silverware, crystal glasses, picture frames, and chargers.

Melvin went on to add, “We couldn’t wait to finally relax, take in the fruits of our labor, and start the next chapter by celebrating with our closest friends and family. But the next day, down to the minute we were supposed to walk down the aisle, a flash flood took the desert by literal storm. Fifteen minutes of a torrential, unprecedented, and unseasonable downpour, forced 100 people into our modest home and us to abandon everything we’d planned and worked so hard for. There would be little bridal party photos, no grand entrance, no dinner service under the stars, no speeches, no cake cutting, little dancing. Every single moment that makes a wedding a wedding was stolen from us by the weather.

She also shared, “For the next week, Kevin and I cleaned our house multiple times, trying to remove the mass amounts of mud from our floors and rugs. When we finally finished about a week later, we both got Covid for the first time, just days before we were supposed to board a plane for our honeymoon – which, obviously, we had to cancel. As if that weren’t enough, while we were sick, our dog OD’ed on weed he’d gotten into while we were in the shower and almost died. The day after, our water main broke. About a week after that, Kevin broke his leg. Did I mention he also got stung by a scorpion for the first time the week before our wedding? You just can’t write this shit, folks!

We would like to take this time to congratulate Rachel and Kevin on their marriage. See the photos below!
