On June 9th, 2021 Dan Feuerriegel assumed the role of EJ DiMera on Days of Our Lives. Today marks 1 year since his debut!
Being a recast, especially of a popular and controversial character like EJ DiMera is never easy. It typically takes time for fans to accept recasts, if at all. However, Feuerriegel makes the recast process seem effortless as most fans almost immediately accepted him as EJ. Feuerriegel has truly made the character his own.
When Feuerriegel’s EJ DiMera returned to Salem, EJ was intent on recapturing the romance with his wife, Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney). However, Sami had cheated on him with Lucas Horton (Bryan Dattilo) before he returned, thinking their marriage couldn’t be saved. Sami chooses EJ, but Lucas made sure EJ found out about the affair. EJ was devastated. Sami still wanted to make things work, but then she was kidnapped. Lucas, with assistance from Kate Roberts (Lauren Koslow) and Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn), framed EJ for the kidnapping when it was really Lucas who was the culprit! Thinking EJ was responsible, Sami leaves town with Lucas to give their relationship another try.
When in prison for Sami’s kidnapping, EJ finds out that Clyde Weston (James Read) was behind his shooting. He confides in Belle Brady (Martha Madison) who was the only one who believed in his innocence from the start. Currently, they are attracted to each other and things can get messy since Sami and Belle are half-sisters!
Other storylines that Feuerriegel has been a part of as EJ are: reuniting with his son, Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman), fighting to regain control of the family company, and almost getting back together with his ex, Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker).
Feuerriegel posted on his Instagram story to acknowledge his 1 year on Days of Our Lives. He stated, “So just got the word that it’s my one-year anniversary of Days of Our Lives. It’s been an absolute pleasure and I just wanted to quickly thank all of you out there for your love and support, it is greatly appreciated and I hope you have a fantastic Thursday!”
