On July 8th, 2002 Eric Martsolf (Brady Black, Days of Our Lives) made his daytime debut as Ethan Winthrop on Passions.
Martsolf dove right in as his first scenes were witnessing the almost execution of Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald (Lindsay Hartley) who was convicted for the murder of Julian Crane (Ben Masters). Theresa confessed to the crime initially thinking Ethan was guilty. The faux execution happened to draw out the real killer.
Ethan was in a love triangle with Theresa and Gwen Hotchkiss (Liza Huber). Ethan ultimately ended up with Theresa, but their relationship was complicated, to say the least. Theresa was obsessed with Ethan and stalked him. She was willing to do anything to be with Ethan including lying, blackmailing, manipulating, attacking others, etc. Ethan was able to forgive her despite all of her misdeeds. Even when they tried to be with other people, Ethan and Theresa couldn’t stay away from each other. The unconventional couple were a fan favorite and Martsolf & Hartley’s chemistry was undeniable.
After Passions went off the air, Martsolf joined Days of Our Lives as Brady Black in 2008. In 2014, Martsolf won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. He was nominated for the same title in 2019. This year, Martsolf was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor.
Martsolf is a fan favorite and is so deeply loved and appreciated by the daytime community. Please help us celebrate the 20-year anniversary of his spectacular daytime career!
