On August 2nd, 1982 Leann Hunley debuted as Anna Fredericks (now DiMera) on Days of Our Lives. 40 years on a soap opera is no easy feat; it is quite an accomplishment! While Hunley hasn’t been on Days of Our Lives all throughout 40 years; fans always love seeing her as Anna in Salem. Hunley’s talent and charisma are what keep fans entertained and happy every time Hunley graces the screen.
Hunley’s first storyline as Anna was intense, to say the least. Anna arrived in Salem searching for her husband, Roman Brady (then portrayed by Wayne Northrop). Roman had thought that Anna died, but Anna stated she had survived and was later sold into slavery. She claimed that the red marks on her back were a result of being whipped, but it was later revealed to be from multiple sclerosis.
Anna DiMera’s most popular pairing is with Tony DiMera (Thaao Penghlis). Their relationship, like most popular daytime couples, has been full of ups and downs which include multiple marriages and Tony returning from the dead more than once. That barely scratches the surface of their long history!
Hunley’s most recent storyline involved conflict with Tony over Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey). Sarah had been drugged and as a result believed she was Tony’s ex, Renee DuMonde. Tony felt bad for Sarah and didn’t want to hurt her so he played along with her delusions which deeply hurt Anna. When an antidote had been created, Anna didn’t hesitate to inject Sarah with it even though it hadn’t been tested yet. This only caused further conflict for the DiMeras. They eventually made up over it.
