DAYS’ Steve and Kayla helped define the word “supercouple” back in the ’80s, but even with all their jet-setting adventures, the Johnsons have never experienced having a grandchild! That’s not the case for Kayla’s portrayer, Mary Beth Evans, who recently heralded the arrival of a new grandson.

Who’s That Girl?
Mary Beth Evans came in to replace actress Catherine Mary Stewart as Brady clan ingenue Kayla in 1986, first leaving the show in 1992.
Evans moved on to GH in 1993 as Katherine Bell, and began doing double duty on that soap and spinoff Port Charles in 1997 until departing in 1999. ATWT’s Oakdale greeted Evans in the role of Sierra Esteban from 2000 to 2005.
She shifted back to DAYS in 2006, staying until 2009; though she returned in 2010 and has been part of that cast ever since, she made appearances during ATWT’s final episodes that year, and Evans simultaneously worked on web series The Bay from 2010 to 2016.

Unlike even her own soap characters, who have pivoted through marriages and divorces, Evans has been steadily married to her husband, Michael Schwartz, since 1985. Together they’ve had three children: Daniel, Katherine, and Matthew.
The next generation of that family also tends to do things in threes, with Katherine just having given Evans a third grandson.
On Instagram, Evans accompanied her photo of Katherine holding her newborn alongside husband Cory and older sons Luca and James with the caption, “The sweet new addition to our growing big family, Noah Hayes Nasoff….everyone is doing great! #truelove”
