Wow, can you believe how time flies when you’re having fun? Today makes it 43 years since Deidre Hall’s debut as Marlena Evans on Days of Our Lives.
Marlena first stepped on the scene as a guest character in June 1976 and was later added as a main character on the canvas. Originally, Marlena was the psychiatrist hired for Mickey Horton. As she was placed in contact with the soap’s core family – The Hortons, Marlena had more reason to stick around and was given a contract.
Notably, Marlena’s first lover in Salem was Don Craig who was Mickey’s assistant. Throughout her run on the show though paired with men like; Alex North, Roman Brady, Eugene Bradford and Don Craig her most significant pairing is with John Black (Drake Hogestyn) – their pairing is often referred to as “Jarlena”. Hall has received three Daytime Emmy nominations for her portrayal of Marlena Evans in 1980, 1984 and 1985 in the categories of Outstanding Lead Actress and Outstanding Supporting Actress.
