Spoilers for Days of Our Lives on August 31, 2023: Dimitri is skeptical of Leo’s plan. Gabi and Stefan are determined to learn the truth. Belle urges Brady to not press charges. Xander makes a shocking discovery about Philip.
Days of Our Lives Episode Recap Thursday, August 31, 2023: Xander Makes A Discovery
Stefan and Gabi try to figure out who Dimitri’s girlfriend is and can’t understand why he married Gwen instead of the woman he was sleeping with. Gabi thinks they need to search his room and Stefan agrees to stand lookout. Downstairs Gwen questions what Kristen is talking about. Kristen tries to brush her off but Gwen won’t let her, demanding to know why Kristen would think she would hit Dimitri over the head.
Gwen tells her what Dimitri told her about the strategy session he had with Kristen and wants to know who Kristen thinks they should partner up with. Kristen tells her to ask Dimitri but Gwen insists she tells her. Kristen lies and tells her that it’s Chad. Gwen says that Chad hates her so why would he want to partner up with her husband and Kristen. Kristen says no one else has tried so she thought she and Dimitri should try and entice Chad to join them.
Gwen tells her to go ahead and then heads for the stairs because her jet lag is setting in. After she is gone Kristen calls Dimitri and tells him what she told Gwen. When Gwen gets upstairs she finds Stefan in the hall and wants to know why he is in front of her door. He lies and says he was admiring a piece of art on the wall and tries to talk to her about it. Gwen tries to get into her room and he tries to stall her by telling her Harold is inside unpacking for them.
Gwen tells him that she already did her unpacking. Stefan tries to stall by inviting her downstairs so they can have a drink and she can tell him about Iceland. Gwen tells him that she is tired so he should go ask Leo since he showed up, uninvited, on her honeymoon and barges past him.
Gabi is tossing rose petals on the bed when Gwen comes in and Gwen demands to know why she’s there. Gabi lies and tells her that she was just trying to set the mood for her and Dimitri since their honeymoon was cut short but Gwen accuses her of snooping to find information about the board meeting. Stefan tells Gabi they’ve been caught and should just leave so they do.
Once they get back to their own room Gabi tells Stefan that she found a receipt showing that Dimitri paid for two rooms at the hotel in Iceland and they were on different floors so he must have brought his girlfriend with them. Stefan tells her that he didn’t bring his girlfriend, he brought Leo.
Dimitri doesn’t think Leo’s plan to pose as Gwen is going to work but Leo talks him into it. They go to Elliot’s room and he questions them. Leo, pretending to be Gwen, gives a very impassioned speech about the love and Elliot tells him that he believes that they are truly in love but that he knows that Leo isn’t Gwen.
He tells them that he did his research before coming to Salem and has also been to many drag shows with his husband. Elliot tells them that he can see that they are in love and he understands why they have to keep it a secret. He tells them that he is on their side and hopes that someday they can be open about how they feel. He gives Dimitri the check for the first installment of his money but tells him that if he wants the rest he has to keep up the charade with Gwen. Leo and Dimitri share a passionate kiss.
Belle is on the phone with Marlena checking on Shawn when Brady gets to the Pub to meet her. She thanks him and he asks if it’s about reopening his custody suit. She tells him that it’s about Philip and he sees that she knows that he is alive. He realizes she took him on a client and wants to know who conned her into doing that. Belle tells him that no one had to con her, she just wants to help Philip.
Brady tells her about the note he left for Shawn and tells her that Shawn never got back to him. He asks if Shawn is on Philip’s side since she is defending him and Belle tells her that Shawn is not the police commissioner anymore. She tells him about Paulina demoting him and the 24-hour hold Marlena put him under and confides how scared she is. Brady feels bad and apologizes for shooting off his mouth. He asks if there is anything he can do and she asks him to not press charges against Philip.
Brady tells her that isn’t fair but she presses him, telling him that Victor would want them to all help Philip get his life back together. Kristen interrupts them and she and Brady trade barbs. She brings up what he did to poor Philip before leaving. After she leaves Brady tells Belle he won’t press charges because Philip will go to jail and all he cares about is clearing his name and getting his daughter back. Once everyone knows Philip is alive the first part will happen so he doesn’t need him to go to prison. Brady tells her that he’s not doing it for Philip, he is doing it for her, Chloe, and Victor.
Chloe drinks her coffee and thinks about finding Philip at her door and everything that happened after. Xander interrupts her thoughts and asks if she is ready to go to work. She tells him to go ahead of her because she has things to do and he hears a loud noise come from her bedroom. Chloe tries to pretend it came from a different apartment but Xander is not convinced. He thinks that Brady is in her bedroom but she tells him that it’s not Brady.
She calls for the person to come out and Xander is shocked when he sees that it’s Philip. Philip tells him what he did and where he’s been and Xander wants to know why Chloe didn’t tell him and if she ever would have if he hadn’t heard the noise. Gwen apologizes and tells Xander she didn’t tell him for his own sake, so he wouldn’t have to cover for Philip. Xander tells Philip he’s lucky Chloe still cares about him and Philip congratulates him on their engagement.
Xander doesn’t understand why Philip came back when he will be in so much trouble and Philip tells him that he was sick of hiding and had to come back for his father’s funeral and to be with his family. Belle texts Chloe to tell her that Brady isn’t pressing charges and Philip is ecstatic. He says that this means he can see his mother and go to the funeral. Chloe tells him that she’s happy for him and Philip thanks her and tells Xander to be good to her before leaving.
