Days of Our Lives Episode Recap, Cast List, and Spoilers for July 24, 2023: Abe Is Rescued
Spoilers for Days of Our Lives on July 24, 2023: Whitley has a break with reality. Rafe and Jada are stunned to find a lifeless Lani. Marlena gets word that Abe is alive. Chad opens up to Theo. Alex visits Stephanie.
Days of Our Lives Episode Recap July 24, 2023: Abe Is Rescued
Chad goes to Theo’s room to say goodbye before Theo leaves town but Theo tells him that he can’t leave yet. He tells him about Lani being missing. They talk about the search and Chad assures him that Lani will be found safe. He tells Theo that he’s there for him. Theo asks him for a distraction and Chad offers a game of chess but Theo thinks he won’t be able to concentrate on that and asks him about moving in with Stephanie. Chad tells him about it and Theo picks up on Chad not being really happy and asks him. Chad confides in him about what has been going on with Alex and his history with Stephanie.
Stephanie is sitting down to work when Alex arrives to return Chad’s robe. She tells him that Chad’s not there and Alex comes in despite her obvious displeasure with him. She tells him that she has to work and he offers to help her but she turns him down coolly and he says he can take a hint and starts to leave. Stephanie stops him when she asks if he can actually take a hint or if he is oblivious to how obnoxious he is acting.
Stephanie reads Alex the riot act for how he has been acting since he moved in and what happened when he came over the other night. Alex realizes what he has been doing and apologizes to her sincerely. They talk about how he’s been acting and he admits he is jealous of her and Chad’s relationship. She makes it clear to him that what he is doing needs to stop or they can’t be friends. He promises to correct his behavior and she promises him that he will meet someone perfect for him someday. She hugs him just as Chad comes in. Chad pushes Alex away from Stephanie, thinking he is trying to come on to her but Stephanie explains that she hugged Alex. Alex apologizes to Chad before leaving.
Eli gets to Paulina’s and they talk about the search for Lani. On the docks, Rafe says that Lani’s pulse is weak and they find a syringe near her body. The US Marshall asks if she has a history of drugs but Rafe is emphatic that she doesn’t. She is rushed to the hospital and Eli calls Rafe for an update right after they get there. Rafe tells him where they are and tells him to get there immediately.
At the hospital, Marlena tries to call Whitley but gets her voicemail. She hangs up without leaving a message and then she gets a call from John, updating her about what they learned from Jerry. At Whitley’s, she talks to Abe about them being together forever as she wheels out the space heater that accidentally killed her husband! She sits on the couch with him and talks to him like he is her late husband, going in and out of current reality as she talks.
Marlena tells Kayla everything John told her and then Kayla gets called to the ER for a patient being brought in who is suspected of overdosing. After she leaves Marlena decides to go to Whitley’s herself. Whitley talks to Abe about the day her husband died and her guilt over it as she sets up the space heater. She tells him that they will always be together forever and sits on the couch next to him as the space heater starts to leak gas into the room.
Jada gives Kayla the syringe so that she can figure out what Lani was given. Kayla is able to find an antidote and saves Lani and then updates Rafe and Jada about Abe being alive and Whitley having him. Marlena gets to Whitley’s and goes in and finds them on the couch, coughing at the gas in the apartment. Whitley confuses her with a character on Body & Soul as Marlena tries to reason with her about getting her and Abe out of the apartment. Whitley refuses to let her help them.
Kayla calls Theo to come to the hospital to see Lani and talk to her. Paulina and Eli watch over Lani until she wakes up and she tells them about Whitley and Abe. At first, they aren’t sure if she is hallucinating but Kayla backs up what she is saying and Paulina is overjoyed that her husband is alive. Whitley threatens Marlena with an umbrella when she wants to turn off the space heater. Marlena tries to counsel her through her grief over her husband and is starting to get through to her but Rafe and Jada burst through the door and Whitley panics.
Kayla fills Paulina in on everything Jerry told John and Steve and Lani tells her what she saw at Whitley’s apartment. Paulina wants to go to Whitley’s but Kayla tells her that Rafe and Jada already went. At her apartment, Whitley grabs a lighter and threatens to kill all of them if they don’t leave but Abe reaches out and takes her hand and she gives the lighter to Marlena. Marlena takes Abe to the hospital and Jada waits with Whitley as Rafe airs out the apartment.
Jada calls the station, telling them to have mental health staff on hand for Whitley who is completely detached from reality. Jada tries to read her her rights but Whitley is too far gone to understand them. At the hospital, Theo gets there and Paulina updates him about Lani and then they are both thrilled when Marlena wheels Abe off of the elevator. They greet him joyfully but Abe is still confused about what is happening.
