Days of Our Lives Episode Recap, Cast List, and Spoilers for July 4, 2023: Lani’s On The Case!
Spoilers for Days of Our Lives on July 4, 2023: Lani returns to Salem. Chanel tries to no avail to get Paulina to snap out of her deep depression. Theo catches up with Steve and Kayla as well as John and Marlena. Steve and John compare notes about Abe. Abe has no choice but to keep watching a soap opera.
Days of Our Lives Episode Recap July 4, 2023: Lani’s On The Case!
Theo is getting dressed in his room when there’s a knock on the door. Eli is there with a surprise for him, Lani! She has been furloughed from prison for Abe’s funeral but has to wear an ankle monitor. They share a bittersweet reunion before Theo comments about it being Eli and Lani’s wedding anniversary. She tells him that they decided not to celebrate this year because of Abe’s death but Theo tells her that Abe would have wanted them to and was so happy they were together. Lani asks him if he wants to go see Paulina with them but he tells her that he has a stop to make first and will be over there later on.
John is on the docks at Abe’s memorial and starts calling for him, through the dense fog. Abe walks over and apologizes for not being able to stay. John wants to call Paulina to tell her Abe is alive but he says goodbye and walks away as John calls after him. John wakes up and realizes it was a dream. Marlena brings him a cool towel and he tells her about the guilt he is feeling for not finding Abe and how he can’t shake the feeling that something’s not right. They talk about his friendship with Abe and then he apologizes for not being more sensitive to Marlena’s grief. She comforts him and tells him they are all grieving the friend they lost.
At Steve and Kayla’s, Steve is feeling the same way John does and Kayla tries to comfort him and assure him that he did everything he could to find Abe and bring him home. Steve doesn’t understand how Abe could have been missing for all those weeks and no one knew where he was when he was injured. He feels that there must be something they are missing. Theo comes over and thanks them for a donation they had made to Abe’s favorite charity.
Kayla makes food for Theo and assures him they are there for him and he thanks her. He tells her that he’s going to be ok with Lani back. He shares with her that he is struggling with his father’s death because he wasn’t able to actually say goodbye like he could when his mother died. John and Marlena come over and are happy to see Theo. They express their condolences and Theo thanks them for everything they did to try and find him.
Theo gets emotional talking about Abe and Marlena offers to talk to him about how he is feeling. Theo tells them he has to go and about Lani being back before he leaves. John and Steve express their frustrations about not finding Abe and Marlena and Kayla try to comfort them. John tells them about the dream he had and Marlena wonders if it was telling him there was more to find out about what happened. Steve and John vow to keep looking until they figure it all out and get answers.
At Whitley’s, she looks at the newspaper’s announcement of Abe’s death and is about to throw it away when he comes into the room and asks what she is doing. She lies and tells him that a local man died from drowning and she didn’t want him to be upset by seeing it. Abe insists on seeing the paper but she refuses to give it to him and turns on the guilt, telling him that he is ignoring how hard all of this has been on her and how worried she is that he will relapse.
Abe apologizes and backs off of wanting the paper. Whitley has to go to work and Abe asks if Theo can come stay with him because he gets lonely when she is gone. She lies and tells him that Theo had to go back to South Africa but he was resting when he stopped by on his way to the airport to say goodbye. He asks if Chanel can come by but Whitley tells him that she is too busy with her bakery. Whitley suggests Abe watch more Body & Soul because an exciting character named Lorna is back on and she is very entertaining. After she leaves Abe is watching it and is shocked to see his son “Theo” appear as a character on the show.
At Paulina’s, Chanel shows her flowers and reads her a card that was sent but Paulina is consumed by her grief over Abe’s death. Chanel encourages her to take a shower and get dressed but Paulina doesn’t want to because it makes her think about Abe. Lani and Eli arrive to surprise her and Paulina is thrilled to see her daughter.
They share a touching reunion before Lani tells Eli that she has to see the evidence about what happened to Abe for herself. Paulina tries to talk her out of it but Lani is insistent and Eli agrees to bring her to the Salem PD. Lani promises to be back to see her mother and Chanel leaves with them to go to the bakery. After she is alone, Paulina gets dressed and then is surprised when Whitley knocks on her door.
At the Salem PD, Lani and Eli reflect on how they met and fell in love there before going over the evidence regarding Abe. Lani remembers a conversation she had with Abe when she first came to town to find him and then gets back to work. She goes over the blood evidence and then the witness statement from Jerry. She is surprised when Eli tells her that Jerry is an actor.
