Tide, the NFL and Days of Our Lives?!

Soap fans recently got a surprise when Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn popped up in a new Tide commercial with NFL legend Peyton Manning and Baltimore Ravens Mark Ingram Jr. And last night we were treated to another one…this time starring the daytime duo.

Thanks to an amazing array of promotional spots with different NBC shows like The Voice, Superstore, Saturday Night Live and our very own Days of Our Lives you may know that Tide has partnered with the NFL and NBC to stir up a national debate about the best night to do laundry. After Peyton Manning declared Sunday Night “Not For Laundry,” Kenan Thompson (Saturday Night Live) responded with a hilarious rap, heightening the debate. Now Drake and Deidre are getting involved to make sure viewers know they support their decision for #LaundryNight to be any night of the week on two conditions: they’re using Tide and it’s not during Days of our Lives. You can check it out here:

Soap Opera News recently was given the amazing chance thanks to Tide to chat with the iconic Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn about their experience working on the campaign. And I was thrilled to speak with Deidre and the always charismatic Drake, who was very excited to talk about their partnership with Tide.

Deidre spoke about how “over the moon” they were to learn that they had been chosen to represent Days in the #LaundryNight campaign. “I mean you had a lot of talent to choose from, but you know what? It really makes a lot of sense because John and Marlena are really squeaky clean,” Drake added.

This kind of cross-promotion between Days of Our Lives, the NFL and Tide is a truly great strategy. To have Tide bring together sports fans and daytime fans gives each company a unique opportunity to grow. “I just have a life-sized picture of a bunch of guys sitting around watching the game and the wife walking through going ‘Wait a minute! That’s my favorite couple!’” Deidre expressed with a laugh. “I think that it’s going to go a long way towards introducing that female audience.”

Drake felt like the pairing was just a natural extension. “I can only speak from a once upon a time playing professional sports. Believe it or not. All of the athletes that I played with watched soap operas.”

Tide’s campaign is centered around ‘when is #LaundryNight’ so, where do Drake and Deidre fit into that battle? “I’m sorry, but it’s during the Today Show.” Drake quipped. “Too bad Today Show. I can’t do it during Days of Our Lives!” That three-hour stretch does seem like the ideal time to get your laundry done! Deidre, who has apparently mastered the art of not losing her socks in the dryer, finds herself doing laundry when she runs out of clean socks. But seriously…can you share how you don’t lose your socks in the dryer?! It’s a problem! LOL

The duo’s favorite part of their experience with Tide was working in a different atmosphere. Used to working on a sound stage at a “fever-pitched pace” they were happy for it to be just them on the set working together to get the best product that they could. “Everybody was comfortable. Everybody was happy.”

“What was amazing,” Drake chimed in, “was that they came to us!” The pair was already working on the Days set that day when they were approached about doing the commercial later in the afternoon. “It was a lot of fun. Fast and furious, and we were in and out and back to taping the show!”

I love hearing that this pair is going to be on our screens so much coming up! Especially with the time jump coming our way! Drake and Deidre recently teased the upcoming storyline, noting that the jump into the future will happen around Thanksgiving and that there will be a big New Year’s Eve reveal!

Thank you to Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn for the chat and the laughs! We’re holding onto the edge of our seats to see what kind of drama is headed John and Marlena’s way!

And thank you to Tide for the opportunity! We heard when Drake and Deidre’s #LaundryNight is! Now let us and Tide hear from you! Join in the conversation and share what day you do laundry on! Be sure to use the hashtag #LaundryNight!
