The entertainment world is mourning the loss of Donald Gibb. The actor, known for his larger-than-life screen presence and unforgettable character roles, has passed away at the age of 71.
While many fans remember him from cult classic films, soap viewers also knew him from appearances on The Young and the Restless and Days of Our Lives.
According to reports, Gibb passed away at his home in Texas on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. His son, Travis, confirmed the news and shared that the actor was surrounded by family during his final moments. His death reportedly followed ongoing health complications.
Donald Gibb Left His Mark on Pop Culture
For many, Donald Gibb will always be remembered as “Ogre” from the Revenge of the Nerds movies. The role became a pop culture staple and remains one of the most recognizable performances of his career.
He also appeared alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme in the martial arts favorite Bloodsport.
Soap fans, however, got to see another side of him through his daytime television appearances.
On The Young and the Restless, Gibb appeared in two episodes in 2003 in the role of Worm. Meanwhile, on Days of Our Lives, he appeared in about 3 episodes back in 1998.
From Sports to Hollywood
Before acting, Gibb was actually on a very different path.
He played both football and basketball in college and even earned a spot with the San Diego Chargers organization. However, a serious car accident ultimately ended his hopes of pursuing professional sports.
That unexpected turn eventually led him into acting and, ultimately, Hollywood.
Outside of television and film, people who knew Gibb often described him as warm, approachable, and deeply devoted to his family and faith. He also co-owned the popular Chicago bar Trader Todd’s, where fans frequently shared stories about how kind and welcoming he was in person.
Gibb is also credited with hit shows such as Quantum Leap, The X-Files, Magnum P.I, Boy Meets World, Seinfeld, and more.
Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.
