Drake Hogestyn, renowned for his iconic portrayal of John Black on Days of Our Lives, has passed away at the age of 70.
In a statement released by a spokesperson for the show, it reads, “Days of our Lives is heartbroken to share news of the passing of Drake Hogestyn. His family shared the statement below and there will be no further details or comments at this time.”

“It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Drake Hogestyn. He was thrown the curve ball of his life when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but he faced the challenge with incredible strength and determination. After putting up an unbelievable fight, he passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones.
He was the most amazing husband, father, papa, and actor. He loved performing for the Days audience and sharing the stage with the greatest cast, crew, and production team in the business.
We love him and we will miss him all the Days of our Lives.”

Hogestyn, originally from Fort Wayne, Indiana, graduated from North Side High School and received a baseball scholarship to the University of South Florida, majoring in microbiology and applied sciences. He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals and the New York Yankees, ultimately signing with the Yankees before an injury ended his baseball career. He joined the cast of Days of our Lives in 1986 as “The Pawn,” later revealed to be Roman Brady, and became a fan favorite alongside Deidre Hall’s Marlena Evans. He later became John Black.
Drake Hogestyn married his childhood sweetheart, Victoria, and they have four children: three daughters and a son.
