Victor Newman is not slowing down one bit—and neither is his portrayer, Eric Braeden. What should have initially been a three-month run turned into a year, and now fast forward to 44 years and counting—Eric Braeden is still playing the great mustache man. From the sound of it, he has no plans to retire—at least not anytime soon.
TV Insider spoke to the daytime soap opera legend about his retirement plans, “I will not, I don’t want to,” he tells the website. He adds, “I feel very well. I really do. The [bladder] cancer is under control, and I will have another cystoscopy in about a month, and if that is negative, then I’ll be free for a while.”
There’s enough reason to keep Victor around: he’s in the thick of things! And on top of that, the show recently reconstructed one of its iconic sets—The Newman Ranch—a surprise that was unveiled leading up to the show’s 13,000th episode. He tells TV Insider, “I was really touched because the old set meant so much to the Nikki/Victor relationship. And they did a wonderful job.” As for the show that is the number one daytime drama, Eric Braeden says, “I fell really good about it. We’re still number one.” (Photo: CBS/Sonja Flemming)
