Eva LaRue has enjoyed a long and successful acting career, both inside and outside the soap world. From All My Children to The Young and the Restless and most recently General Hospital, she’s built an impressive résumé. But it was her latest role on GH that didn’t quite win over fans.

In a recent interview with Soaps.com, LaRue admitted that viewers didn’t exactly warm up to her character, Natalia Rogers-Ramirez, on General Hospital. Reflecting on the experience and her character, she confessed, “She’s horrible.”

LaRue explained, “I didn’t know when I took the role how ugly she was going to get. It was rough to play, especially coming from playing Maria Santos, and the audience at General Hospital just despised me.” She added, “I did not realize how bad she was going to get.”

The show eventually tried to soften Natalia’s image and steer the story in a new direction, but LaRue said the damage had already been done. “Then they finally were like, ‘Yeah, this is not working.’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, it’s kind of not. Thanks for the play time, guys. I gotta go.’”

LaRue played Natalia on GH for just over a year, from 2024 to 2025. Before that, she portrayed Celeste Rosales on The Young and the Restless in 2019, a role that earned her a Daytime Emmy Award. Of course, her most iconic soap role remains Dr. Maria Santos Grey on All My Children, which she played from 1993 to 2011.

Up next, LaRue is stepping into a deeply personal project. Her new documentary, My Nightmare Stalker: The Eva LaRue Story, premieres Thursday, November 13, exclusively on Paramount+.

  1. At that time I was part of a group of fans online who were really huge #Kraze fans! And, as a soap fan for someone you “ship” to be given a new family member is something to be glad about because it means the show is more invested in them! So, then the articles started & Eva kept saying that her part was NOT going to be homophobic, which didn’t seem to fit. And, then, of course, she was, in spades, too! Anyway, that is what got her started “on the wrong foot” with the fans.

  2. Natalia became a casualty of headwriter roulette — so many changes in visions and directions throughout 2024. There were certainly ways to integrate her into the cast and redeem her otherwise homophobic / insensitive approach to parenting. She could have reunited with Jenz and taken on Sonny together. She could have become an accountant for The Metrocourt which would have her interacting with Carly and various guests. There seemed to be a general disinterest from the writers, and sometime LaRue herself, from having Natalia play a meaningful role on this canvas. Perhaps Beyond the Gates might be a good place for her to land.
