He’s a bit new on daytime with his role as Jordan Wilde on ‘The Young and the Restless, but this is not his first acting gig and neither does it stop there. Darnell Kirkwood who joined the number 1 CBS daytime drama earlier this year has been cast in an upcoming pilot titled “Casting Call“. Filming for the upcoming pilot was done in Los Angeles and began in 2016 but was completed earlier this year. The tagline indicates that the show gives a behind the scenes look into the world of a commercial casting office, from the ridiculous auditions, to the even more ridiculous people that work there.

Speaking to Patrick Cavanaugh, who is a co-creator for the pilot along with Dusty Warren, he tells us of their connection to the new Y&R hunk. “The writer (Dusty Warren) and I are the co-creators. We both teach at John Rosenfeld Studios, which is also where we know Darnell. He used to be in my class, and he and Dusty are actually in an acting class together that’s taught by John Rosenfeld. In fact, almost everyone in the pilot are actors at our studio,” shares Cavanaugh.

How did this show come about, Cavanaugh tells us: “I had directed a short film that Dusty wrote a couple of years ago, and I went to him with this idea for a show. I thought it would be a fun challenge to do something a bit bigger than just a short, so our 24-minute pilot was born.”

While things look good so far, Cavanaugh gives us an insight as to where things stand right now. “We are currently shopping the show around town, which is even more challenging than making it! We also have recently been accepted into a couple of film festivals, so will be attending those screenings in hopes of making some connections to make more episodes.”
