Yesterday, on August 15, the soap community was dealt a real blow as news of Tristan Rogers‘ passing began to circulate. Rogers, a well-known actor, became beloved among daytime television soap opera fans for his portrayal of Robert Scorpio on General Hospital, a character he had played since 1980. He passed away at the age of 79 after a battle with lung cancer.
Since the news broke, an outpouring of tributes has flooded social media, from those he worked closely with to many whose lives he touched. Finola Hughes falls into both categories. The duo played iconic General Hospital characters Anna and Robert. They were even considered one of the show’s most popular supercouples.
Robert first arrived in Port Charles in 1980 as an undercover WSB agent. Both characters had ties to the WSB; Anna followed in 1985. The two married and had a daughter, Robin (Kimberly McCullough), who would go on to become one of GH‘s most beloved characters. Though their marriage didn’t last, Anna and Robert remained close over the years and often worked together on missions.
FInola Hughes Pens Heartfelt Tribute to Tristan Rogers
Taking to Instagram to honor her former co-star and beloved friend, Hughes wrote, “Wish I could play one more scene with you, my friend.” Her post included two photos of herself with Tristan Rogers, the second is a snap of a dramatic scene from the show.
She continued, “Tris sauntered into my dressing room on that first day to rehearse. Cropped hair & steel blue eyes, I thought ‘damn, I’m gonna be working with Steve McQueen!’ From day one he called me ‘kid’ or ‘Finny’ and he made me laugh.”
Hughes recalled, “An effortless actor, living on screen, he taught me so much. Serious about his work, but always a rebel. His own man, navigating the system, he protected me, protected Kimberly, his character, his friends. God, he was a good one. Silly, funny, kind, serious. I am heartbroken for his awesome wife Teresa, his children Sara Jane & Cale. His family made him so happy and he adored talking about them. Love you Trissy, Mai Tai’s on the beach, Scorpio…”
