It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is still going strong, and it’s bringing back a familiar face. Robert Adamson, who is best known for playing Noah Newman on The Young and the Restless and a fill-in Michael Corinthos on General Hospital, is reprising a role he played all the way back in 2005.
One of Adamson’s earliest TV credits was his role as Trey in the episode titled Underage Drinking: A National Concern. Now, 20 years later, he’s back as Trey in the brand-new episode, this time titled, Overage Drinking: A National Concern, which airs August 7 on FXX.
Adamson shared his excitement on Instagram with a nostalgic post:
20 Years Ago, summer of 2005, I booked my first Guest Star on little F/X show that had been given a 7 episode pickup. Three “actors actors” who were tired of the Hollywood Grind, and wanting to take control of their lives, combined their immense comedic skills, wrote a pilot, and shot it on an 8mm handycam.
Today, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia is the longest running live action comedy series of all time. It is the only running live action Parody comedy in the vein of say, South Park. Its world building allows them to push boundaries that in 2025 are seen as untouchable. But these guys continue to say, F**k It.. how much further can we push this.
The show today, by comparison, sees the group having gone from questionable to outright psychotic, and it is as funny today as it was twenty years ago.
Tonight, another episode airs. Trey and Tammy are back. They’re married, with children, unhappy, and maybe, just maybe Sweet Dee and Trey will get the prom night they deserve. Check it out, tonight on F/X.
Big shout out to the gang for believing in a nervous young actor fresh out of college, and thanks for having me back!
So, make sure to check out the new episode. Whether you’ve been watching since day one or you’re just joining, It’s Always Sunny still knows how to shock, and somehow make you laugh at the drama of it all.
In case you need a refresher, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is an American sitcom created by Rob McElhenney and co-developed by Glenn Howerton. It originally premiered on August 4, 2005. The show now airs on FXX, and Season 17 kicked off with two episodes on July 9, 2025. Catch Robert Adamson in this new season! (Photo: Sonja Flemming/CBS.)
