General Hospital Episode Recap and Spoilers for January 4, 2024:
What happened today on General Hospital: Carly lashes out. Sonny encounters Cyrus at the church. Joss and Dex find a drunk Adam. Curtis has a romantic surprise for Portia. Laura makes a realization about Esme.
GH Recap Today, January 4, 2024
Laura and Kevin are discussing Bobbie when Ace’s babysitter calls Laura to inform her that they haven’t heard from Esme. Esme arrives and apologizes for worrying Laura. Meanwhile, Kevin hands Esme her glove, which catches Laura’s attention. Laura recognizes the glove and confronts Esme about breaking into Wyndemere. Esme claims that she went there to see if she remembered anything, but she didn’t. Laura tells her that she needs to turn herself in for breaking into the mansion. However, Esme is scared of going to prison. Laura assures her that taking responsibility will make her feel better and offers to go with her to the PCPD in the morning. Just then, Laura receives a call from Curtis, who tells her to hurry to the hospital because it is about her brother.
Dex and Josslyn are in her dorm when they hear a noise. Dex goes to check and finds Adam, who is visibly drunk, standing at the door. They help him to sit, and Josslyn notices that something is bothering him. Adam confesses that his parents found out that he lied about the internship and are angry that he is wasting their money at PCU. He expresses his frustration with himself and wonders why he is such a screw-up.
Josslyn has to leave, so she asks Dex to keep an eye on Adam. Dex shares with Adam how he, too, had struggled to fit in with his own family and reveals that he enlisted in the military to escape that pressure. Adam expresses his doubts about enlisting, but Dex encourages him to find his own path. Dex assures Adam that things will eventually get better.

Portia finds Curtis at the hospital holding a rose. She asks him why he’s there, and he replies that he wants to celebrate the New Year with the woman he loves. Curtis is impressed that Portia is working on New Year’s, as not many people would be excited about working on a holiday. They talk about the procedure, and Curtis is concerned about the possibility of it not working. Portia assures him that she will love him no matter what. Suddenly, she receives a call and has to leave. Laura arrives at the hospital with Kevin and sees Cyrus’s condition.

Willow confronts Michael about his motives, and he reveals that he was blackmailing Nina. Willow is angry at Michael for manipulating her and tells him that she should be able to make her own decisions about Nina. Michael explains that he wanted to tell the truth, but he was trying to protect Willow because she had been through enough. Willow says that she thought they were partners and that they should be honest with each other. She asks what kind of marriage they have if they can’t trust each other. Willow tells Michael that she needs some time to think and asks him to sleep somewhere else tonight. As Willow leaves, Michael receives a call from Drew.
Nina visits Carly and says she has something important to tell her. Drew returns while Nina says there is something she needs to tell them both. Nina apologizes more than ever before. Carly assumes Nina knows about Bobbie, but it’s not that. Drew leaves to finish his call while Carly says she will handle Nina. As Carly demands to know what Nina has to say, Nina reveals that she tipped off the SEC about Carly and Drew’s insider trading. Carly is upset to learn the truth, but Nina says emotions were running high back then. Carly lashes out that Drew should not have gone through this, and Nina says she is trying to set the record straight.
Carly wants to know why Nina is telling her this now. Nina claims the guilt was eating her, and she did not know how to fix it. Carly realizes that Nina got busted, and that’s why she chose to come clean. Carly calls Nina nothing but a selfish person and tells her that she hopes she rots in hell. Nina claims she is trying to make things right, but Carly thinks there is no way Nina can come back from this because Sonny values loyalty. Carly tells her that she will never forgive her, and now Willow will see that Nina hasn’t changed. Drew returns and wonders what is going on. He learns that Nina tipped off the SEC. Drew wonders what he should do because he cannot hit her. Drew threatens to ensure that Wiley and Amelia find out what Nina did. As Nina goes on and on, Carly tells her that she cannot handle this tonight. Carly reveals that her mom died. Nina is sorry to hear this, but Carly tells her to get out. Drew calls Joss asking her to come over because her mom needs to talk to her. As Joss and Michael arrive, Carly shares the news of Bobbie’s passing. Carly promises they will get through this together.

Sonny goes to church, and Cyrus comes to tell him that he needs to give up his burden to God because the truth will set him free. Sonny tells Cyrus that tonight is not the night to be pushing him. Cyrus says he is sure Nina only did what she thought was right when she reported Carly and Drew to the SEC.
Cyrus explains that in her time of distress, Nina found herself at the temple and he is glad his simple truth could help them both. Sonny is angry and punches him on the cheek, punching him again. Cyrus tells Sonny that he and God forgive him. Sonny keeps punching him, telling him to fight back.
Nikolas reminds Ava that Esme is the one responsible for ruining their lives and suggests that it is time for payback. Ava asks for more information on his plans, but Nikolas says that it is more about what they will do together. Ava is hesitant to work with him but asks him to be honest with her and tell her if he is planning to kill Esme.
Nikolas says that he is not thinking about killing Esme. He admits to having trouble concentrating when he is around Ava. Ava reminds him that they used to be together but those days are over. Nik wonders if Ava’s hesitation to help him is because she fears spending time with him will make it hard for her to resist him. Ava insists that he is not quite resistible. Nikolas suggests that Ava should throw a party and make sure Esme is there. Ava is skeptical, asking why Esme would come to a party that she throws. Nikolas says that Ava has a vivid imagination and will come up with something.
Sonny goes home and takes out a bottle of liquor. He is angry. Ava arrives and asks what he is doing in the dark. She then inquires about Nina’s whereabouts, and Sonny tells her that she’s “gone.” Ava advises him to clean up. Just then, Nina shows up and reveals that Sonny knows the truth. Ava thinks it’s best if she leaves, but Nina insists on talking to Sonny. However, Sonny slams the door shut in her face.
