One of General Hospital’s most beloved newcomers, Rory Gibson, sat down for a revealing chat on the latest episode of State of Mind, hosted by his on-screen dad, Maurice Benard (aka Sonny Corinthos).
The episode kicked off with Benard’s usual warm intro, before he welcomed Gibson as his guest. What followed was an honest, heartfelt, and at times emotional conversation.
Gibson opened up about his childhood, including his parents’ divorce at a young age and what it was like adjusting to life with a stepdad. He also talked about his journey into acting, landing the role of Michael Corinthos on GH, and the wild ride it’s been ever since.
One of the most touching parts of the interview came when Gibson opened up about a time in his life that many fans never knew about. After his run on The Young and the Restless, things took a serious turn.
He shared, “Post Y&R things got real, real bumpy for a while because we had the strikes and stuff.”
He and his fiancée, Alicia Ruelas, were suddenly facing serious financial struggles. Gibson revealed, “Me and my fiancée were essentially like homeless. I was doing Y&R and then I went recurring, and I was working here and there for a little while.”
With industry work drying up due to the strikes, they spent nearly a year couch surfing. It was a tough chapter, but one that made his General Hospital break all the more meaningful.
Now, things have changed in a big way. He says he feels fulfilled, challenged, and truly wanted at GH.
While he appreciated his time on Y&R, he admits that the character of Noah wasn’t exactly the right fit for him. Of course, he doesn’t blame the show. He says, “It was a me thing.” On GH, however, his role is front and center, something that keeps him on the top of his toes, and a shift he genuinely loves.
Another fun nugget from the chat? Before hitting it big in soaps, Gibson also worked as a fitness trainer, something many fans might not know.
And of course, he couldn’t stop singing the praises of his fiancée, Alicia. To hear the full story, check out the full interview in the video below. It’s totally worth the watch. (Photo: ABC.)
