General Hospital is serving up surprise after surprise lately. Last week, not only did Jon Lindstrom return as Dr. Kevin Collins, but we also met a slightly-aged Ace Cassadine, now being played by Kieran and Karis Barry. On top of that, Friday’s episode delivered not one, but two unexpected cameos. Back on our screens, however briefly, were Avery Kristen Pohl and Jeff Kober as Esme Prince and Cyrus Renault.
Naturally, viewers immediately started wondering: could a full-time, or at least temporary, return be in the cards?
Pohl, who just snagged a Daytime Emmy nomination, chatted with Soap Opera Digest about her surprise reappearance and what it might mean for her GH future. Even though Esme is currently “dead,” this is a soap, and we all know the afterlife is more of a revolving door than a final destination.
Avery Kristen Pohl’s Surprise GH Return
Pohl, who played Esme from 2021 to 2024, told SOD, “It was the quickest little pop-in, but it was so fun to see everybody.” She added, “We filmed [the episode] a week after the [Daytime] Emmys, so I got to catch up with everybody and then go see them at work a week later, which was really fun.”
As for whether Esme could return, Pohl mused, “I’m always open to talking and going from there.” She went on to joke about Esme’s possible whereabouts: “I would like to think that she is on a little vacation somewhere. Maybe she stuck around France, maybe she’s, like, in Morocco on a camel somewhere. I don’t know, but I don’t think she’s dead. If there’s not a body, you’re not dead—that’s my rule of thumb [laughs].”
