The Day Players are going to look a little different for some upcoming performances. Original band member Wally Kurth—yes, that Wally Kurth of General Hospital (Ned Quartermaine) and Days of Our Lives (Justin Kiriakis)—is stepping away from touring for the foreseeable future.
Wally Kurth Takes a Break
In a new Instagram announcement, the band shared that Kurth is taking a lengthy break after an especially busy stretch. The message reads, in part:
“After an exceptionally busy stretch, Wally Kurth has decided to step away from touring for the rest of the upcoming dates to focus on family time. Wally is fine and remains an important part of the band, with hopes of rejoining in the future.”
Who Replaces Him?
The announcement also revealed who’ll be stepping in—and soap fans will definitely recognize him. Scott Reeves is joining the tour moving forward.
Reeves has walked the halls of both GH and Days, playing Steven Webber on General Hospital, and Jake Hogansen on Days of Our Lives. He’s also played Ryan McNeil on The Young and the Restless.
The statement continued: “During Wally’s hiatus, the band is pleased to welcome Scott Reeves, who will be joining the tour moving forward. We appreciate everyone’s continued support and look forward to sharing what’s ahead.”
Kurth has already been swapped out in the band’s official photos and website bio, which now reads: “Eric Martsolf, Brandon Barash, Carson Boatman, and Scott Reeves have joined musical forces to form THE DAY PLAYERS—an unprecedented 90-minute acoustic act, encompassing rich harmonies, engaging storytelling, and a guaranteed unforgettable night out.”
Reeves is no stranger to the music world. He co-founded the country duo Blue County with Aaron Benward. Plus, he later formed the band Port Chuck alongside General Hospital co-stars Steve Burton, Bradford Anderson, and Brandon Barash.
We’re wishing Wally Kurth nothing but the best. We hope to see him back on stage with the band when the time is right.
