Last Sunday on his YouTube Live Maurice Benard, who has played Sonny Corinthos on General Hospital since 1993 took questions from fans and gave an eyebrow-raising answer to one question in particular!
A fan asked if he would open an acting school if he ever left General Hospital and Benard replied, “I’m really happy right now. If you know me, you know it’s in waves how happy I am on General Hospital, up and down, up and down, and a lot of it has to do with acting. It isn’t what it was when I was young.“
He was very contemplative as he added, “Sometimes it’s difficult and it hits me in places to act that I don’t like. But right now, I’m really happy on GH and if I ever left, I would want to bring this State of Mind to a place where I could make a good enough living to just do this. I think there’s less pressure here for me, and I can still work with mental health.”
No one was surprised by his desire to continue State of Mind which is very much a passion project for the actor but what he said next had jaws dropping!
“But acting… I don’t know when, but soon enough I’ll be done with it. Sorry. I hate to say that, but it’s the truth.”
No word on when “soon enough” would actually be but General Hospital fans hope it’s later rather than sooner in this case!
