As part of #GivingTuesday, GH’s Michael Easton is teaming up with the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation with a donation to their CharityBuzz Online Auction, an annual fundraising effort. The Foundation hopes to raise $18,000 for ovarian cancer research, prevention, and treatment during the holiday drive.
Easton was a young actor with a budding career when his mother was diagnosed with the disease, and he took two years off work to care for her while she went through chemotherapy treatments. She passed in 1994, and his poetry collection, Eighteen Straight Whiskeys, was written over a four-month period in Paris as he worked through the emotional aftermath of her death. His father succumbed to colon cancer a few years later, and the Emmy nominee has since been an active and committed supporter of cancer charities and research.
For the Rollman Foundation’s “Good Gifts Holiday Auction”, Easton is donating an autographed copy of the 25th Anniversary Edition of Eighteen Straight Whiskeys, with 30 new poems in addition to previous work in earlier editions. The book will be on sale to the public later this year.
In addition to the poetry collection, the lucky winning bidder will also get a 30-minute phone conversation with Easton. “We can chat about poetry, General Hospital, or anything else they want to talk about,” he says.
The Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation is a non-profit organization created in memory of Sandy Rollman, who passed in 2000. Their objective is supporting and advocating cancer warriors and achieving “A world without ovarian cancer”.
“It is in Sandy’s memory and the memory of all women who have succumbed to this insidious disease that we have dedicated our efforts to help conquer ovarian cancer,” reads their mission statement. Reflecting its namesake’s fighting spirit, it adds, “It would have been a mistake for us to just give up.”
The CharityBuzz Auction goes live November 27 and runs through December 11. Other items donated for auction include internships, autographed memorabilia, Kleinfeld’s Bridal, meet and greets, and dinner at the iconic and exclusive Rao’s New York.
