Risa Dorken (Amy Driscoll, General Hospital) was diagnosed with Bipolar Type 1 Disorder in February 2020 after she was hospitalizaed twice when she suffered from a severe manic episode.  The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) provided support services at no charge for her and her husband, Bo. Dorken shared her story on Maurice Benard’s (Sonny Corinthos, General Hospital) YouTube channel, State of Mind.

Dorken shared on Instagram that she will be serving as an Ambassador for NAMI’s walk in Grand Park in Los Angeles on May 21st.  She stated, “I am so honored to be an ambassador this year for #NAMIWalksLACounty @namiglac raising funds and awareness.  During the most challenging time in my life, this organization showed me that I was #NotAlone with my Bipolar 1 diagnosis. @namicommunicate programs, both for those living with mental health conditions and their loved ones, continue to transform lives and families every day.  Now, more than ever- please donate to this years walk (on May 21st) by visiting the link in my bio. Dorken’s goal is to raise $1,000 and at the time of this article, she is at 35% of her goal.  If you are able to, please donate to this worthy cause and don’t forget to share the link to spread the word!

NAMI’s goal of the walk is to “cheer each other on while raising our voices to be heard, united in our commitment to raise awareness of our cause, funds to drive NAMI’s free, top-rated programs, and build community in every sense of the word”.

Thank you Dorken for raising awareness on such an important cause!
