The Bold and the Beautiful’s Douglas Forrester now adds a new Netflix series to his growing list of credits

You might remember Henry Samiri most as the cherubic Douglas Forrester, the forthright little boy who revealed father Thomas’ baby scam and let the world know that Steffy was not raising adopted baby Phoebe, but Hope’s presumed dead infant girl Beth.

Samiri has made 193 appearances on B&B since his start there in 2019, but now the almost teenager is graduating to an adaptation of the rom-com 13 Going on 30, which will appear on Netflix. Read on to learn more about this reimagining and how Samiri fits into it!

Key Takeaways

  • Speculation on Samiri’s role in the limited series
  • Star of the original film, Jennifer Garner, is involved in a big way
  • The famous faces Samiri will be co-starring with

Don’t Try to Live Your Life in One Day

13 Going on 30 first hit movie screens in 2004 and was an immediate success. The story follows the unpopular 13-year-old Jenna, who inadvertently gets her wish to be “30, flirty, and thriving” when she wakes up in a woman’s body.

Starring Jennifer Garner (best known for the 2001-2006 ABC show Alias) and Mark Ruffalo (most recently of the films Mickey 17 and Crime 101, following a series of Marvel movies), the project ended up grossing $57 million domestically and $96 million overall.

The upcoming Netflix reboot isn’t even the first attempt to bring a new version of Jenna’s tale to life. A Broadway adaptation was proposed in 2016, but it never made it out of development. The UK succeeded in bringing 13 Going on 30 to playhouses, however, mounting a workshop in 2023 and a full-on production by 2025.

Dig It Like It Should Be Doug

Henry Samiri (who has dropped the middle name Joseph from his credit) got his start at the tender age of 6, stepping onto the set of B&B as Douglas Forrester, the son of Thomas Forrester and the now-deceased Caroline Spencer. (Anyone out there still believe Ridge is actually Douglas’ father?)

In addition to his recurring appearances on the show, the last of which was this past December, Samiri has also racked up all 10 episodes of the streaming series The Watchful Eye, plus 6 appearances on The Pitt – and he even showed up in an installment of American Horror Story.

Samiri celebrates his thirteenth birthday this Saturday, July 25 – which rather makes him perfect for a role on a series called 13 Going on 30.

B&B’s Henry Samiri Is Heading to Netflix With 13 Going on 30

Given that industry mag Deadline has reported Samiri as joining the “young supporting cast,” it’s a safe bet that his as-yet-unspecified character will factor into Jenna’s teenage, pre-30 world.

If the reboot follows the original’s formula of Jenna’s childhood taking place 17 years in the past, it looks like we’ll be seeing Samiri interacting with this version’s Jenna circa 2010.

Brett Haley, who directed this year’s Netflix film People We Meet on Vacation, will reteam with its star, Emily Bader; she will step into the role made famous by Jennifer Garner. Samiri’s co-stars will also include Logan Lerman (Only Murders in the Building), singer/actress Jessica Alba, and long-established SNL comedian Tim Meadows, whose most recent television credit is CBS’ DMV.

And while Samiri will be too young to pick up on the significance, Garner, the original star of 13 Going on 30, has signed on to executive produce its remake!

Are you looking forward watching the fast-growing Samiri on this Netflix series? And do you believe that Douglas’ paternity is settled, or is there room for doubt? Share your thoughts in the comments below — and don’t forget to check out B&B weekdays on CBS.
