After nearly a year, Jens Austin Astrup is officially off contract at General Hospital, according to the closing credits that aired at the end of the October 17th episode.

This news comes as a bit of a surprise to fans, considering Astrup’s character, Kai Taylor, is currently in a romantic storyline with Tabyana Ali’s Trina Robinson and has been working for Congressman Drew Cain.

Astrup was originally announced by Deadline back in 2024, with his first airdate reported for November of that year. He was introduced as a student at PCU, where Kai met Trina.

Since then, their relationship has grown from friends to an official couple. And in recent weeks, Kai even took a major risk, stealing evidence from Drew Cain’s safe to eliminate his leverage over Trina’s parents.

Is Jens Austin Astrup Leaving General Hospital?

With Astrup off contract, some fans may worry that this signals an exit. However, it could also mean the actor is shifting to a recurring status. A similar situation happened recently with Josh Kelly (Cody Bell), who was listed as off contract in the closing credits but continues to appear regularly on the show.

A Los Angeles native, Astrup graduated from Vassar, where he honed his craft in acting and literature. He appeared in Gossip Girl (Max’s reboot) and starred in Cyrano de Bergerac at the Pasadena Playhouse. Lexy Alvarez at the Kohner Agency represents him.

How do you feel about Jens Austin Astrup being off contract? What do you think this means for Kai’s future in Port Charles on General Hospital? Share your thoughts in the comments; we’d love to hear from you.

I think it gives him time to do other projects. Kaiser character leaving right now wouldn’t make any sence.
