After a long and successful television career spanning decades, Jere Burns is finally adding a soap opera to his résumé.
According to TV Insider, Burns will make his The Young and the Restless debut on Monday, June 15, in a multi-episode story arc. The veteran actor has been cast as the newly created character Dr. Laurence Markham, a man who reportedly has ties to Diane Jenkins Abbott.
The casting news comes at an intriguing time, especially since Diane has been noticeably absent from Genoa City in recent weeks.
Burns may be new to daytime television, but he’s certainly no stranger to television audiences.
Throughout his career, he has built a reputation for playing charismatic, complex, and sometimes villainous characters. Fans may recognize him from his roles as Kirk Morris on Dear John, Wynn Duffy on Justified, Anson Fullerton on Burn Notice, and appearances in Angie Tribeca and Something So Right.
Now, he’ll be bringing that experience to Genoa City.

The casting also marks a reunion for Burns and Susan Walters, who plays Diane Jenkins Abbott.
The two previously worked together on Dear John, and Walters couldn’t be happier to share the screen with him again.
“I loved working with Jere Burns on Dear John, so I was thrilled when I was told that we’d be working together again on Y&R,” Walters told TV Insider.
She added, “He was a fantastic scene partner in this upcoming story arc.”

Born on October 15, 1954, Burns has enjoyed a lengthy career filled with memorable television roles.
