It’s Just Not Sustainable Anymore
Despite reports floating around that Kelly’s exit is a done deal, nothing has been officially confirmed. That said, producing a daily talk show is no small feat. One insider pointed out that in today’s TV landscape, keeping up that kind of pace indefinitely just isn’t sustainable.
Per a report from Page Six, an insider said, “[Her show] is a lot to put on, and looking at the landscape across daytime television, it’s not sustainable anymore.”
Kelly has always seemed like a quality-over-quantity kind of person, and it’s possible she’s simply reached her limit with the nonstop hustle of daytime television. The grind of five days a week at 30 Rock can wear down even the most energetic stars.
Parenting Comes First
Another major factor may be Kelly’s focus on her children. Following the death of her ex-husband, she has made it clear that being present for her kids is her top priority. Balancing hands-on parenting with the demands of being the queen of daytime TV means something is bound to give.
If she’s choosing to step back from a television contract in order to be there for her children during a formative and emotional time in their lives, that’s a decision few would fault her for. Sometimes, being a mom has to come before being a media powerhouse.
So, Who’s Next?
Naturally, the moment exit rumors began swirling, speculation about a replacement followed. One name that keeps popping up is Hoda Kotb. Word is that NBC may already be eyeing her to fill the slot if Kelly does step away.
How true is that? It’s probably too early to say. But keep an eye out for updates.
